Arusha, Tanzania We arrived into
Kilimanjaro airport mid-afternoon. Our expedition company had a car
waiting for us. We embarked and drove the hour and half to Moshi.
Kilimanjaro airport
Security was no real concern at
this airport. No police were there
to stop photography.
In Ahmedabad, India (Jan 2000),
I had 6 men point automatic
weapons at me when I tried
to photograph the plane (dumb).

The
first place we stopped
(at the airport) was for
changing some US $ into
Tanzania TShillings (Tsh)
Conversion
rate on this day
was 795 TSh to 1 USD

Like
most 3rd world country
airports, there is just a fairly
large building and a door. No
real security beyond an old
X-Ray machine and a couple
of guys hanging around with
automatic weapons. One guy
with an AK47 equals 32 guards
with wooden billy clubs (IMHO).

Just
outside the front door
of the airport. We waited for

An
extremely large cactus looms ahead. Must have been
25' (7.7m) tall.

On
our way to Moshi, we pass
lots of little shops in Arusha.

Even
more than in India,
uneducated people still use
their heads for something...

Although
hard to see, Mt. Meru (~15,500' (4769 m)) loomed
before us on the road to Moshi.
I couldn't believe that this
bohemoth was 4000' feet
smaller than Kilimanjaro!
