He became supreme
commander of Allied forces
in World War One. He fought
in the Franco-Prussian War
of 1870-71. He commanded
the French Second Army when
war broke out in 1914, and
stopped the German advance
on Nancy. He later played
a prominant role in the Treaty
of Versaille, ending WWI.
