of the cavern...

With goddess carved into
the walls beyond these
support pillars, we can
get a good feel of the
depth inwards from the
cavern wall they carved.
In fact, they carved out
the entire cavern from
the top down ...

The paint and colours here
look so well preserved,
that I believe they must
have been restored in
some way. The carvings
themselves have suffered
little wear, compared to
many others.

Other visitors take a
break. They all stare at
us, as it is not typical
that westerners visit
places in eastern
Maharashtra state.

One of the other temples,
located outside the main
Ellora cavern area. You
basically exit and walk
down the right side of the
cliff face, where there are
numberous other caverns.

Inside the above cavern,
we see Buddha sitting
in this great hall.

The harmonics of this
room were amazing. A
whisper spoken from behind
this statue resonating
throughout the
entire cavern.

Siddhaika Cave 32 from
900 AD. Siddhaika is
considered as a Goddess of
Fertility in Jain religion.
She is seated on the lion
under a mango tree laden
with fruits and peacocks above. She is bejewelled,
with a tender waist and a
balanced body ....

Hanuman, the mighty
ape that aided Lord
Rama in his expedition
against evil forces.

I believe this is Siva, in
his god of devastation
representation.

cavern entrance, we
can see the field and
walking path in the front...

On our way to Ellora,
we drove past these men
putting up a billboard. These
guys use bamboo for
everything in India!
