... which created 3 internal
naves. The date of the
foundation is unclear, though
it is thought to be from the
pre-Roman age (about
120 BC, since some tiles
found near the opening have
the Oscan seal.

The Amphitheatre was built
in 80 BC by the builders
of the Small Theatre.
Located in the far east end
of the city, leaning against
the walls which used the
earth dug out of the centre
to support steps.

The arena is at a lower level
than the surrounding area,
and there are no
underground passages.

Two main entrances along
the longest axis led into the
arena itself and to the lower
seating level.

The upper levels were reached by external
stairways with two ramps.

Facing the square in front
of the building there is a
large embanked wall built
of dry stone, with large
stone arches.

On the top used to be a
large canopy to protect the
spectators from the
excessive heat of the sun,
probably made of linen.
