Piazza Navonna
Originally a stadium, it was used almost exclusively for sports.
Today, the square has Bernini's famous Fontana dei Fiumi
(Fountain of the 4 Rivers) made in 1651. The rivers represented
are the Ganges, Nile, Danube and the Rio de la Plata. The Roman
obelisk was taken from the Circus of Maxentius; the other two fountains
are the the Fountain of the Moor and the Neptune fountain.

The Neptune fountain in the
foreground here, gives way
to the main square, with
the Fountain of the 4 Rivers
and the Egyptian obelisk in
the center; the Church
of Nostra Signora del Sacro
Cuore (15th century)
covered in scaffolding for
some reconstrution
on the right.
