The mosaics throughout the Basilica are such incredible pieces
of artwork! They look as alive and vibrant as oil based paintings,
yet are small pieces of stone and tile. There color does not fade,
and you can take flash photography throught St. Peter's Basilica.

On the level of the top dome,
high above the Basilica floor,

The problem was that the aisle
between the wall that the mosaics
were upon, and the bannister that
kept you from falling the 200 feet
to the Basilica floor, made wide
angle shots difficult.

Another mosaic that is simply
unconvincing. Something this
vibrant and whole just makes
you think painting. But it is not
a painting, it is made of tile!
