The mosaics throughout the Basilica are such incredible pieces
of artwork! They look as alive and vibrant as oil based paintings,
yet are small pieces of stone and tile. There color does not fade,
and you can take flash photography throught St. Peter's Basilica.

Gian Lorenzo Bernini's bronze
baldachin. A massive structure,
underneath it is the "Confession,"
the papal alter (from which only
the Pope may give mass),
and St. Peter's tomb.
Bernini worked on it from 1624-33,
commissioned by Urban VIII.
