Coimbra
Montemor-o-Velho
After we spent the night with Antao's mother and step father in their house outside
of Coimbra, we drove to a fantastic old castle...

The outside walls of this castle
have obviously been
restored to a great degree.
You can see the Portguese flag
proudly flying high above the
tower

Well manicured grounds, but
no people. It was
fantastic! We had it all to
ourselves

The walls stood roughly 12
meters tall I believe. The tops
of the towers even higher

Every castle needs its church,
and there the bell tower still
rings the hour of the day

Nice wall. I wanted to dig under
it, supporting my tunnel with
wooden timbers, until I reached
well into the courtyard. After
that, I would have lit my tunnel
on fire, burning away the support
timbers, collapsing the tunnel,
and hopefully, the entire castle
wall!

Just my idea of a fun morning

The walls get plenty thicker
