Elevador de Santa Justa
Built at the turn of the century by the French architect Baoul Mesnier du Ponsard, an
apprentice of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, this Neo-Gothic lift is located in the Baixa district.
Made of iron, it is 32 m high, and has elevators to the top where one can view the city
and sip coffee or tea at the little cafe.

The elevador actually has a
walkway at the top that links
to the streets above. Indeed, it is
simply an elevator for getting from
one part of town to another!
