Toiyabe National Forest

Running along the eastern border of California abutting Nevada, this National
Forest has more than just trees, but the typical giant rock outcroppings common
to the area, and a number of wondrous, serene lakes.

Forests and "Rocky" Mountains
abound everywhere you look

Note on this rock face the horizontal
cracks in the foreground. This volcanic rock used
to be under a mountain. Now the mountain is gone,
and the pressure that kept this rock dense released.
So, the rocks cracked parallel to the surface, and
now weather slowly away like onion skin over time.
