çannakale
çannakale
is the guardian of the Dardanelles, the narrow straits that
seperate Europe from Asia and connect the Aegean Sea with
the Sea of Marmara. Fought over since the days of the Trojan War,
the Persian conquerer Xerces used a bridge made of boats to cross
it in
480 BC; the Spartans crushed the Athenians here in 404 BC, ending
the
Peloponnesian War, Alexander the Great crossed here on his Asian
campaigns and more recently in World War I, the Turks stopped the
Allies
in the Gallipoli campaign, resulting in the fall of Russia.

This
fellow beyond the fence
cleaned our window and
demanded $. I thought he was
collecting $ for the ferry, and
he screwed us pretty good.
Beware of him, and beat him
good for me if you see him!

Yes,
it was to my
surprise that there is
NO bridge across the
Dardanelles, even
though you may think
there is when you look
at the road map.
