Ephesus (Efes in Turkish)

Ephesus is the best preserved and provocative ancient Roman city
in the eastern Mediterranean. A powerful sea port and sacred
center for Artemis, Ephesus is also known for when the day
the Temple of Artemis was burned down in 356 BC, Alexander the
Great was born. The silting of the port led to its eventual demise
in the 6th century AD, until rediscovery in the 1800's.
