Gulet Trip starts in Bodrum
We started our Gulet trip in Bodrum, ancient city of Halicarnassus. In
546 BC, the city fell under Persian rule, under the rule of King Mausolus.
He died in 353, and his memorial tomb in Bodrum is considered one
of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Halicarnassus was
conquered by Alexander the Great in 334 BC and never regained its glory.

As we walk the pier, we see
gulet boat after gulet boat;
all ready for a week long
sailing trip, packed full of
eager tourists.

The captains pack the
gulet's in with only
inches to spare. The weather
was warm and the sea
was clear; what a day for
a cruise, much less 5!

The other gulets begin to
depart out towards
the open sea.

We met our
captain and cook/first
officer.

Interesting fellows, to say
the least. The captain was
a sexual tyrannosaur,
flirting with both
women and men alike!

Bonnie and I go
below deck to discover
our room, almost no
bigger than the bed
that it contained.
Certainly cozy!

Our gulet, on the other hand,
gets its anchor lines tangled
with those from 2 other
gulets. What a mess!

Many private boats line
Bodrum harbour, some
with very effective
"automatic" security
systems such as this one
in 45 ACP.
