Kas itself has a monumental sarcophagus known as The Lions Tomb.
In 1842 a British naval officer counted more than 100 sarcophagi in
Kas, but most have been destroyed as locals used the stone
in the construction of newer buildings.

and small stores.

The Lion's Tomb
Dated from the 4th c BC,
this tomb has 4 lions
heads on its top, with a
long Lycian description
which has not yet been
deciphered. The local
people call it the King's
Sarcophagus. It lies
in the middle of the street
with private houses on
all sides, and under a large
plane tree.
