The
whirling dervishes, founded by Mevlâna Celaleddin in
the 13th century (born in present day Afghanistan in 1207, he
was the son of a renowned theologian who fled with his family
before Geghis Khan's hordes. His greatest work, consisting of
25,000 poems are the basis of the order he founded, and is the
only philosophical system formulated in poetry. He died in 1273.
