Marmaris, Turkey

After Bonnie and I left the Gulet, we spent two more days
in Marmaris. One of those days, as shown below, we spent
along the beach, near the castle, and celebrating with
the Turks after they won yet another World Cup match!

Marmaris, or ancient Physkos, was part of the Carian Empire in
the 6th century BC, when it was overrun by the Lydians. The Carians
used the harbour as a military base for campaigns against the
Phoenicians in Rhodes and other Aegean Islands. In 138 BC,
Physkos became a part of the Roman Empire.
